This is a paper, essentially a policy memo, co-authored with Laura Aull and submitted on 2025-03-14 to CCC Forum.
It is under review with the journal. Here is an abstract:
Generative AI is becoming an integral part of writing and education, shifting discussions from detection and restriction to integration and critical engagement. Many institutions now focus on defining clear policies that specify acceptable AI use, disclosure expectations, and enforcement mechanisms. Writing educators and administrators play a role in shaping this transition by designing assignments that emphasize process, originality, and engagement with AI tools. As AI becomes a routine part of communication and research, policies and teaching strategies continue to adapt, aligning with how students and professionals already incorporate these technologies into their work.
